Galapagos Day 2

June 5, 2016

After a first rough night of sailing to Santa Cruz Island (before we got our sea legs) we rose with the call at 6:45 for a hot breakfast at 7:00. Then it was on to the panga headed for Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill) to see land and marine iguanas and get a taste for the many different species of birds on the islands.

This guy slid right up onto the boat and was not bothered one bit by our disembarking to the pangas!

Iguana tracks... we should see them soon...

Still some green even in the dry season

The colorful land iguana out of his burrow warming himself in the sun

Marine iguanas...these guys were the ones who left the tracks for us

Sea lions wherever we go!

Back to the boat to don wet suits and snorkel gear

Afternoon stop: Rabida Island

Ready for a deep water snorkel

Marine iguans getting ready to swim with the boys

Can you see the legs and flippers of the snorkeler in the middle of this HUGE school of fish?
Amazing!!

The Pacific Sea Turtle

Another very large school of fish

Hot chocolate to warm up after a successful swim

Jacuzzi dip on the sun deck

This beautiful red sand beach is due to the unusually high iron content of the volcanoes on Rabida Island.  Absolutely stunning-

Curious little mockingbird

Lava Lizard

Deep thoughts about the day...

Sunset...

Brown Pelicans

Reminiscent of a sunset on Heron Island, AU
