April 27th-
We arrived in Venice without any trouble. There was an immediate and distinct change in our surroundings.... a coolness and humidity in the air, water everywhere and no cars. The boys were excited at the prospect of taking a boat to explore their new territory.
It is easy to see why so many authors are inspired to use this unusual mysterious place as the setting for their stories as you get a sense right away that it is a place unique, peculiar with exotic influences and secrets to uncover...
We spent our first afternoon "getting lost" (on purpose) along the tiny calle (streets) that were more like dark alleyways and finally finding our way to a delicious restaurant for a meal Venetian style complete with cuttlefish (similar to squid) in it's own ink!

It is so wonderful for me to see those big smiles of Nash and Ross at San Marco Square with all of those birds. What a sight! I'm not sure however about the sight of the cuttlefish with its ink on a plate. To further continue our goal of sharing part of your adventures, Poppy and I decided to eat (Italian style) fried squid instead tonight at Sekisui's. Our bravery was depleted with the word "ink". I also believe it would take much bravery to ride your bikes on the city wall near Lucca in the Tuscany area. I eagerly await those pictures. We are all saying prayers for you all to be safe and sound at every turn you may take. That's just what grandmothers do. Thank you for your sweet thoughts this Sunday. Boys, draw your mom a lovely picture for Sunday or make her a big Italian pancake for breakfast (with dad's help). Love to each of you. A presto. Gogo
